The St. Catherine Labouré-St. Colman Altar Rosary as we know it today started in the early 1960s as St. Philomena's ARS. Shortly after it became St. Catherine Labouré ARS and in 2016 changed to its current name.
The primary purpose and goal of the Altar Rosary Society is the glory of God in the example and imitation of the Blessed Mother. Particularly, as the name states: "ALTAR", by imitating Our Blessed Mother in the service of her Divine Son, by keeping His house, the Church, and all that surrounds Him, a place worthy of His Holy Name and “ROSARY”, by honoring and praising the Blessed Virgin Mary, through the recitation and promotion of the devotion of the Most Holy Rosary. To accomplish this high goal, the Altar Rosary Society will honor God by fulfilling a noble and humble service in the House of God.
We meet monthly on the first Monday after the first Sunday, from September to May, after our daily Mass and recitation of the rosary. We enjoy light refreshments before our meeting. We start each meeting praying for our sick, homebound, and deceased members. We pray for the intention of the Pope and for our Pastor. We work to provide spiritual growth of its members and assist the pastor as needed. Members attend to the altar and sanctuary with altar linens, flowers, cleaning, and decorating for holidays. Our members make hospital visits, send greetings to the sick, make funeral home visits for our members where we recite a decade of the rosary, and attend funeral Masses. We have Masses offered for the intentions of our members.
We support Respect Life. In support of Pro-Life, we attend Mass and pray the rosary for the end of abortion in our country and worldwide. On Mother's Day, we assist with selling roses for Respect Life.
The last Sunday of the month is Hospitality Sunday following the 7:45 A.M. and 10:15 A.M. Masses for the people of the parish. We provide coffee, juice, cake, bagels, donuts and more, all donated by our members.
When our Parish has a need for other activities, such as special dinners, Parish Anniversaries, birthdays, First Communion, we provide help and support. In the past, we have provided support for flood victims, a member of the parish with cancer, and a member that had a house fire.
We have bake sales and yard sales. We have published two cookbooks, one on the 25th Anniversary of St. Catherine Labouré and the other to celebrate the Millennium in 2000. All these fund raisers allow us to reach our goals and we could not do it without the generous support of our parishioners.
